ABSTRACT: The Town of Sundre located approximately 100 km north west of Calgary, AB was planning to service existing residential, commercial and industrial developments on the east side of the Red Deer River. In order to service the development, new water/wastewater infrastructure will be required to cross the River to tie-in the developments with the existing Town system using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). A detailed study including fisheries, hydrotechnical, geotechnical and geophysical assessments were conducted to ascertain the optimal location for the pipeline crossing. A No-Drill zone, for the optimal location, was also presented. This paper presents the findings of the geotechnical and geophysical assessments only.
