ABSTRACT: Analysis of heat flow in ground contributes to an understanding of how freeze-thaw cycles may affect soil behaviour. Previous thermal numerical modeling by the authors used thermal properties from the literature. This paper reports results of thermal conductivity tests at temperatures of -16°C, -10°C, 3°C, and 10°C on specimens of plastic clay and peat in Northern Manitoba. The laboratory program described here used a thermal needle to determine thermal conductivity of undisturbed samples. The test results have been used in thermal numerical modeling of the respective sites.
