ABSTRACT: This paper at first models Triaxial Test numerically with a program based on Discrete Element Method. Evaluating the effect of grain shape on triaxial test results, different groups of grain with different angularities were modeled. To discriminate different shapes of particles two shape description factors, Sphericity and Angularity Index (A.I) were defined. Several triaxial compression tests with different confining pressure and friction coefficients were carried out. Then the results were compared with experimental ones. The results demonstrated the significant influence of angularity of granular particles on the triaxial test results, for instance, by increasing angularity in a specified confining pressure, mobilized friction angle and dilation increase significantly, and values of mobilized friction angle and dilation were increased significantly in lower confining pressure.
