ABSTRACT: Nowadays, RocFall software is widely used for rockfall analyses. Two things a geotechnical engineer needs to know are : 1) the likelihood of falling rocks reaching the working area at the bottom of a slope and 2) the contribution of each rockfall source (seeder) to this likelihood. These are key factors in determining how serious the rockfall hazard is on a slope, or in determining what remedial measures should be implemented. In the case where more than one location on a slope is projected to release falling rocks, a RocFall software user may use a multiple seeder function to directly generate the number and percentage of falling rocks that will reach the working area under a slope in a simulation. This percentage is then used as the probability that falling rocks will reach the working area. However, using the software in this way (as multiple seeder function) produces misleading information. This paper will discuss how to correctly simulate a rockfall and interpret its results using RocFall in order to avoid the misuse of the software.
