ABSTRACT: Using some simple cases of stability analysis, the influence that anisotropic undrained shear resistance of cohesive soils may have in the factor of safety is discussed. Determination of the undrained shear strength in accordance with the inclinations of the axis of sample and of the failure plane is highlighted.
