Centrifuge testing of a rockfill dam with a thin central core

ABSTRACT: Centrifuge testing was used to understand the different aspects of the deformation behavior of a rockfill dam with a central thin impermeable core. The test began in a dry condition until reaching the maximum acceleration in the test (160 g) to replicate the dam construction phase. Thereafter water was added to the model upstream side to simulate the reservoir first filling phase. The results indicate that the stress-strain relationship during the dry phase is almost linear and the water filling produces significant collapse deformation in the upstream side. Moreover, the rate of time-dependent settlement after the first filling is higher for the upstream side. Finally, it was found that the test has caused particle breakage and that the amount of this breakage is higher for the upstream side.

RÉSUMÉ: en centrifugeuse a été utilisé pour comprendre les différents aspects concernant le comportement en u du réservoir. Les résultats indiquent que la relation contrainte-déformation pendant la phase sèche est quasi linéaire et que e dans le côté amont. De plus, le taux de tassement dépendant du temps après le premier remplissage est plus élevé pour le côté amont. Finalement, il a été e attrition des particules et que la quantité de fines produite lors de cette attrition est plus élevée dans le côté amont.
