Caractérisation des conditions hydrogéologiques au-dessus du réservoir pétrolier d’Haldimand, Gaspé, Québec

ABSTRACT: A groundwater study was carried out in the Haldimand sector of Gaspé to assess the potential link between a petroleum reservoir, whose potential is being evaluated, and the shallow fractured rock aquifer system. For this study, observation wells were installed, groundwater and surface water were sampled and analyzed, and geophysical logs were taken in the wells. The hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical conditions were then defined on the basis of existing and newly acquired data, thus allowing the development of a conceptual model and numerical model of the aquifer system. The understanding of groundwater flow conditions in this context will allow an assessment of environmental risk for groundwater quallity related to petroleum industry activities.
RÉSUMÉ: Une étude hydrogéologique a été menée dans le secteur d™Haldimand, à Gaspé, afin d™évaluer le lien potentiel entre un réservoir pétrolier, dont le potentiel est en voie d™évaluation, et le système aquifère superficiel dans le roc fracturé. Pour cette étude, des puits d™observation ont été aménagés, des échantilons d™eau souterraine et de surface ont été prélevés et analysés et des diagraphies ont été réalisées dans les puits. Les conditions hydrogéologiques et hydrogéochimiques ont ensuite été définies à partir de données existentes et de celles nouvellement acquises, ce qui a permis de développer un modèle conceptuel ainsi qu™un modèle numérique du système aquifère. La compréhension des conditions d™écoulement de l™eau souterraine dans ce contexte permettront d™évaluer le risque environnemental pour la qualité de l™eau souterraine que pourraient poser les activités pétrolières.
