Session: Mining Geotechnics III

ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this research was to understand the segregation behaviour of uranium tailings. Historical borehole data from the Deilmann Tailings Management Facility (DTMF) at Key Lake, Saskatchewan exhibited segregation within a narrow range of ± 2% when scaled to the average solids content. Similarly, laboratory investigations on various ore types indicated that uranium tailings are mainly silty-sand type materials and remain non-segregating when the solids content is between 25% and 40% at the onset of deposition.
