ABSTRACT: The PIRFICT-model is an alternative to discrete time series models with reference to the system on which they operate. The system characteristics are modeled using impulse response functions and its parameters can be physically related with hydrogeological conditions and climatological inputs. The aim of this work was analyze time series data from a groundwater monitoring scheme in an outcrop area of Guarani Aquifer System (GAS) in Brotas/SP-Brazil, using a system identification approach. Monitoring wells selected in different land uses (sugarcane, citrus, pasture and reforestation) provided singular responses to precipitation and evapotranspiration inputs as the main driven forces of water table fluctuations. The results demonstrated that the PIRFICT model was able to characterize different responses of the water table and its relationship with soil and crop local influences. This information is valuable in land use planning and groundwater management.
