Durability of geogrid reinforcement: exhumation of a geogrid after 25 years

ABSTRACT: Preliminary findings are described of work to characterize a geogrid exhumed from a sloped reinforced soil wall, nearly 25 years after completion of construction. A combination of machine- and hand-excavation proved effective to sample the geogrid. Visual inspection led abrasions on the surface to be categorized as fihigh frequency, relatively low magnitudefl else filow frequency, relatively high magnitudefl. Index test data available at the time of writing indicate no significant difference in the material properties and geometry of the geogrid.
RÉSUMÉ: Les résultats préliminaires sont décrits pour caractériser un géogrid exhumés d'un mur en pente de sol renforcé, presque 25 ans après l'achèvement de la construction. Une combinaison d™excavation à machine et à main s'est avérée efficace pour échantillonner le géogrid. Une inspection visuelle a conduit abrasions sur la surface, catégorisé comme "haute fréquence, magnitude relativement basse" ou bien "basse fréquence, magnitude relativement haute". Les données de test d'index disponibles au ce moment n™indiquent aucune différence signifiante dans le teneur noir de carbone du polymère, ou dans la géométrie du grid et ses ouvertures.
