Statistical analysis of rainfall-triggered landslides in Chittagong, Bangladesh

ABSTRACT: The main objective of this study was to statistically analyze rainfall-triggered landslides in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Mann-Kendall tests were conducted in conjunction with regression analyses for annual rainfall and high rainfall events. Results indicated 22 mm/year increase for average annual rainfall over the last 15 years which coincide with 3.5% rate increase for high rainfall events during the monsoon season over last 35 years. It was found that 70% of all landslides occur during monsoon. An increase of 23% in landslides was predicted over the coming ten years.
RÉSUMÉ: L'objectif principal de cette étude était d'analyser statistiquement les glissements de terrain déclenchés par les précipitations Chittagong, au Bangladesh. Des tests de Mann-Kendall ont été menés en collaboration avec des analyses de régression pour les précipitations annuelles et les événements de fortes précipitations. Les résultats indiquent une augmentation de 22 mm / an des précipitations annuelles moyennes au cours des 15 dernières années qui coïncide avec l'augmentation du taux de 3,5% pour les événements de fortes précipitations pendant la saison de la mousson au cours 35 dernières années.
