ABSTRACT: An experimental research site has been constructed in the Northwest Territories to examine the efficacy of long, narrow, hollow pipes inserted into the ground as a cooling mechanism to stabilize permafrost. The pipes were installed in four different ways in order to achieve a broader picture of the mechanisms at work. The resulting ground temperatures over the winter months are presented. Promising results have been obtained.
