ABSTRACT: A very large landslide, involving approximately 28 hectares, occurred during the night of May 16, 1971, along the South Nation River near the Casselman Village, Ontario. Horsts and Grabens have been identified from the debris analysis inside the landslide scar, typical of spreads in sensitive clay. The Quebec Ministry of Transportation and Laval University are collaborating to undertake a geotechnical investigation in order to characterize the geotechnical properties of soils involved in this landslide. The investigation includes two boreholes, three vane shear tests, and five piezocone tests outside the landslide. Moreover, 11 piezocone tests and two boreholes were performed inside the landslide scar in order to locate the failure surface and characterize the landslide debris. The main results of this geotechnical investigation are presented.

RÉSUMÉ: Un très grand glissement cicatrice du glissement révèle la présence de horsts et de grabens, typique des étalements dans les argiles sensibles.
