ABSTRACT: This paper will focus on the behaviour of granular materials under monotonic loads and presents a constitutive model that is simple yet practical for engineering applications. The model is based on the well-known Mohr-Coulomb model with only one additional material parameter to make it as simple and practical as possible. The applicability of the model is demonstrated by simulations of triaxial tests, and various model tests, including strip foundation and tunnels with and without nearby surface load and also an excavation benchmark case study.
