ABSTRACT: The waveform micropile is a new foundation concept using the jet grouting method that was developed for the purpose of obtaining a greater bearing capacity compared to that of the conventional micropile. The increase in the bearing capacity of the waveform micropile is principally expected to contribute to save construction cost and to decrease the pile length. As the waveform micropile has a modified construction process and shape compared to the conventional type, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the pile behavior for a better design. Hence, a full-scale construction and load test was conducted using three different types of micropile, including the waveform micropile. The results clearly showed that the waveform micropile with the shear key achieved a higher axial bearing capacity, about 2.25 times the capacity of the conventional micropile and 1.38 times that of the jet-grouted micropile without the shear key.
