ABSTRACT: The NorSand critical state conditions. A direct numerical integration of the model was programmed using the software MatLab. Numerical predictions are presented for the Fraser River sand as extensive laboratory data and NorSand simulation parameters are readily available in the literature. Three different relative densities are simulated and compared with matching laboratory results. The stress-strain behaviour predicted shows an overall good agreement with the laboratory data. However, predicted effective horizontal stresses are consistently too high compared to laboratory data (as well as coefficient of lateral pressure at rest values) and a good fit can only be achieved by considerably reducing the shear rigidity. This rigidity softening in turns leads to unrealistically high deformations.
