Compression and creep of Tire Derived Aggregate (TDA) under applied load

ABSTRACT: Under sustained high vertical loading, unlike gravel, a mass of TDA undergoes a considerable amount of compression consisting of both immediate compression and time dependent compression (creep).The response of TDA to compressive loads of about 400 kPa, equivalent to 30 to 40 m of waste, was studied to assess effects on properties such as vertical permeability, horizontal permeability and porosity that are relevant to performance in landfill drainage and similar load bearing applications. Presented here are results and findings from the ongoing study, implications of findings for practice, and direction of future work.

RÉSUMÉ: Sous chargement vertical élevé soutenu, contrairement à du gravier, une masse de TDA subit une compression considérable consistant à la fois compression immédiate et la compression dépendant du temps (creep).La réponse de TDA à compression d'environ 400 kPa, soit l'équivalent de 30 à 40 m de déchets, a été étudiée pour évaluer les effets sur les propriétés telles que la perméabilité verticale, horizontale, la perméabilité et la porosité qui sont pertinentes à la performance dans les sites d'enfouissement de drainage et les applications porteuses de charge similaire. Présentés ici sont les résultats et les conclusions de l'étude en cours, implications des résultats obtenus pour la pratique et l'orientation des travaux futurs.
