ABSTRACT: MSE structures are retaining walls that are reinforced with inclusions placed horizontally in the soil. The design method of MSE structures has progressed from using the Allowable Stress Design (ASD) to using the Load and Resistance Factored Design (LRFD) using the- "calibration to fit" method. use reliability theory in calibration of load and resistance factors to satisfy a target reliability index. In this paper, consistent with literature, simple reliability analysis will be applied to MSE walls designed using AASHTO LRFD. It will be demonstrated that reliability analysis can be used in a simplified format by practitioners for MSE wall design. In addition, the results will serve as an indication on the appropriateness of load and resistance factors in AASHTO LRFD for MSE walls.
