ABSTRACT: Automatic Standard Penetration Test (SPT) hammers have become popular, especially in North America, because they make the field data more reliable and standardized. Recently, some hammers have become available that also automatically measure drop height and impact velocity, providing further quality control for SPT data. The purpose of this paper is to verify the automatic measurements of one of these commercial "electronic" SPT hammers.
