ABSTRACT: As part of the 2010 St. Jude landslide study a detailed investigation of a special piezocone strength signature near the base of the Champlain Sea sediments has revealed the presence of a rapidly deposited layer considered as an event layer indicative of abrupt changes in the sedimentation conditions between 12455 and 11800 cal BP. A similar strength signature has been observed at many other sites in the St. Lawrence Valley and further use of this information may shed some lights on sedimentation during the early phase of the Champlain Sea basin in relation to potential flood events originating from glacial lakes including Lake Agassiz, Iroquois and Algonquin.
