In the proceedings of: GeoNiagara 2021: 74th Canadian Geotechnical Conference; 14th joint with IAH-CNCABSTRACT: A thermodynamic-based constitutive model is presented for describing the time and temperature dependent deformation behavior of clay soils by using the framework of thermo-hyper-viscoplasticity. The proposed framework is derived based on the subloading surface plasticity and Ziegler-type hyper-viscoplasticity model. Dehydration behavior is considered using the laws of thermodynamics for chemical processes. Thermal-hardening and thermal-softening are established by using the law of physical conservation and plastic flow. Comparisons between modeled results and a set of experimental data on clay soils are also conducted. Model validation shows a reliable capability of the proposed model for describing the nonlinear behavior of clay soils under different mechanical and thermal loading conditions.
