ABSTRACT: The experimental study is conducted to investigate the effects of blast loads on the dynamic behaviour of reinforced concrete retaining walls (RCRW) with sand as a backfill material. A soil-RW model is built and subjected to simulated blast loads using a shock tube. The results show that the modes of wall rotation are affected by the backfill relative density. Reduction in wall movement is noticed in dense condition of backfill. The findings of this research provide valuable information that can be used to evaluate the vulnerability of transportation structures to surface blast events and to develop guidelines for their design.


RÉSUMÉ: Cette etude experimentale a ete menee pour etudier les effets des charges d'explosion sur le comportement dynamique des murs de soutenement en beton arme (MSBA) avec du sable comme materiau de remblai. Un modele de sol-MS est construit et soumis a des charges d'explosion simulees a l'aide d'un tube de choc. Les resultats montrent que les modes de rotation du mur sont affectes par la densite relative du remblai. Une reduction du mouvement du mur est remarquee dans une condition dense de remblai. Les resultats de cette recherche fournissent des informations precieuses qui pourront etre utiles pour evaluer la vulnerabilite des structures de transport aux explosions de surface et pour developper des directives pour leur conception.
